Santorum blames abortion for Social Security woes
By HOLLY RAMER
ASSOCIATED PRESS
CONCORD, N.H. -- In his latest trip to New Hampshire, Republican Rick Santorum says the Social Security system would be in much better shape if there were fewer abortions.ASSOCIATED PRESS
The former Pennsylvania senator and potential presidential candidate was asked about Social Security during an interview on WESZ-AM radio in Laconia on Tuesday morning.
He says the system has design flaws, but the reason it is in big trouble is that there aren't enough workers to support retirees. He blamed that on what he called the nation's abortion culture. He says that culture, coupled with policies that do not support families, deny America what it needs - more people.
Santorum has been a frequent visitor to New Hampshire, which holds the earliest presidential primary.

Ohio House weighs abortion bill’s future
Despite anti-abortion majorities in the House and Senate, a bill to give Ohio the most restrictive abortion law in the nation has stalled after drawing fire from those on both sides of the debate.
The organization opposes abortion, but says the proposed law would be struck down by the federal courts for being too restrictive, opening the door for courts to revisit other abortion restrictions, such as a requirement that women wait 24 hours after their initial clinic visit before having the procedure.
Read about what this means for the bill in today's issue of the Dayton Daily News.

Pregnant women get morning sickness to protect fetus
"Morning sickness. It's the bane of many of a pregnancy. And many a future mother wonders at the apparently unnecessary suffering. But, it turns out, there's meaning to the misery. Two evolutionary biologists report that morning sickness protects both the pregnant woman and the developing embryo just when the fetus is most vulnerable."

Kan. Lawmakers OK 2 Abortion Bills
Great news
TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Kansas Senate has given final approval to a bill restricting late-term abortions based on the presumption that a fetus feels pain after the 21st week of pregnancy.
Wednesday's 24-13 vote sends the measure to Gov. Sam Brownback. The bill passed the House earlier.
The bill allows an abortion after the 21st week of pregnancy only if the mother's life is in danger or she faces substantial and permanent harm to "a major bodily function," which would exclude mental health.
The legislation ties the restrictions to a legal presumption that a fetus can feel pain after the 21st week. The science behind that presumption is still in dispute, however.
The Senate also passed a second bill adding restrictions to late-term abortions and requiring parental consent for minors to have abortions.

Planned Parenthood Funding
From www.redstate.com
It has now been weeks since a series of damaging videos showing Planned Parenthood’s systematic willingness to facilitate child sex-trafficking and other forms of lawbreaking, and Congress has yet failed to act to strip Federal funding of this corrupt organization. Several pro-life groups are stepping up the pressure with a series of videos designed to highlight the issue. The first is a powerful user-submitted video which won the contest sponsored by the Expose Planned Parenthood Coalition last week:
The second, titled “We’re Waiting,” has just been released by the American Life League:
Call your Congressman today. Tell them that removing Planned Parenthood’s funding from the Federal budget is non-negotiable.

Holy Redeemer’s Pro-Life Club participates in Annual March for Life
Students in Holy Redeemer High School’s Pro-Life Club participated in the 38th Annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., to protest abortion. The march is held each year in conjunction with the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to legalize abortion. Hundreds of thousands of pro-life supporters listened to speeches and then marched down Constitution Avenue to the Supreme Court. Holy Redeemer’s Pro-Life Club participates in many community service activities throughout the year and also works to raise awareness of pro-life issues and causes.

Rep. Trent Franks: ‘Predna’
His bill, the Susan B. Anthony Frederick Douglass Prenatal Discrimination Act, or “Predna” for short, would effectively turn abortion into a discrimination issue and be inserted into the Civil Rights Act of 1964. A state version of the bill passed the Arizona House 41-18 in February and is now in committee in the state Senate. Other states have introduced similar legislation.

Family Physicians Warned About Topamax Cleft Palate and Lip RIsk
On March 4, the FDA announced that new warnings about the risk of oral clefts from Topamax would be added to the medication’s label after data showed infants exposed to Topamax during the first trimester of pregnancy, when many women do not even know they are pregnant, face an increased risk of cleft lip or cleft palate. The FDA urged doctors to avoid giving Topamax to pregnant women or women who are of child-bearing age and at a high risk of pregnancy, as alternative durgs may not carry the same risk for the unborn child.

Sen. Murkowski opposes Planned Parenthood cuts
From the Alaska Dispatch.....
Politico reports that Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski has come out against U.S. House Republicans' proposed cuts of federal funding to Planned Parenthood. Based on a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman and Vice Chairman and an email to a constituent, Murkowski defends Planned Parenthood and the Title X program -- which provides contraceptive services and education and is managed by The Office of Family Planning -- as providing "vital services" to women, especially those in lower income brackets. The defunding of Planned Parenthood has become a popular choice among Republicans as they look for programs to cut as they trim fat from the federal budget. "Planned Parenthood has provided women throughout the U.S. with important family planning and contraceptive services as well as screening for breast and cervical cancers for low-income women," Murkowski said in the email to the constituent.
